The Folklore Museum of the Union of Pontians of Pieria was founded by the Pontian Association of Pieria and is housed in a building belonging to the Association in the center of Katerini, near the Municipal Park. It opened in 1990, after efforts to collect folklore material held by Pontic refugee families who had settled in Pieria. The purpose of the museum is to preserve and promote the cultural wealth of the Greek Pontians. It has about 600 objects of social, folklore and historical interest, some of which are extremely valuable.
