At the location named Toumbes at the Korinos village, next to the E75 Katerini-Thessaloniki National Road, there are two large Macedonian tombs (tumuli) dating from the 4th century BC. Allegedly Olympias, mother of Alexander the Great, was buried in one of them, but this has yet to be confirmed. The tombs, which are relatively unknown to the general public, can be accessed from the Motorists Service Stations (MSS) of Korinos, following the necessary prior arrangements with the guardian of antiquities of northern Pieria.
